Job Summary

Our client, a community non-profit organization, is seeking a Vice President, Finance to join its team.  Reporting to the Chief Financial & Administrative Officer, the Vice President, Finance (“VP”) serves as a member of organization’s leadership team and oversees a team of 9 individuals across finance, accounting, and gifts processing. The VP owns the organization’s financial systems, balancing compliance with innovation to ensure that internal systems and processes are effective and efficient. The VP is also responsible for leading and mentoring the finance/accounting team and partnering with the leadership team to support planning for the ongoing advancement and sustainability of the organization.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following areas:

Financial Operations

  • Oversee the strategic and tactical financial operations for the organization, including the annual financial audit, and IRS Form 990.
  • Assess and evaluate financial performance of the organization regarding long-term operational goals, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly financial statements, and other key financial data.
  • Manage financial planning and analysis, including actual to budget and rolling forecasts.
  • Manage cash flow planning process ensuring organization liquidity.
  • Represent organization to banks, financial partners, institutions, auditors, and officials. Maintain banking relationships and strategic alliances with vendors and other external stakeholders.
  • Supervise creation of reports, oversee any new software implementation, and manage tools for budgeting and forecasting.
  • Identify, acquire, and implement systems and software to provide critical financial and operational information.

Executive Function

  • Mentor and develop a team of 9 finance professionals, managing work allocation, systems training, performance evaluations, and the building of an effective and efficient team dynamic.
  • Working with the CFAO in planning, communicating, and reporting to organization’s Audit and Finance Committees.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or Finance
  • CPA with background in public accounting a plus
  • 10+ years’ experience in financial leadership in a mid- to large-sized nonprofit organization
  • 15+ years total accounting or finance experience
  • Outstanding knowledge and understanding of GAAP
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, confidence and executive presence – ability to motivate staff
  • Excellent analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills
  • Significant experience working with external auditors, internal controls and compliance-related issues
  • Sense of humor, integrity, and personal sense of accountability
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel with more advanced data manipulation tools such as pivot tables and vlookups
  • Familiarity with a variety of accounting software and payroll packages – specific experience with Bill.com and/or Intacct, a plus
